General Assembly 2018

August Update

Hi everyone,

There’s less than two months to go to General Assembly. It’s been great to see people take advantage of the early bird rate for registrations. In this update, you will hear about the Very Reverend Dr Graham Redding, another of our keynote speakers for Assembly, as well as some of the plans for Assembly’s evening programme. Moderator-elect, Rev Fakaofo Kaio, also provides some more information around the induction service that is happening on the first night of Assembly.

Thank you,

Abi Trevathan and Liz Whitehead

Assembly Co-coordinators

Ministers’ Resourcing Day

Registrations for the 2018 Ministers’ Resourcing Day are now open. KCML is hosting a day focused around Resourcing the Spirituality of Lifelong Learning from 10.30am – 3.30pm on Wednesday, 3 Oct prior to Assembly beginning. The full programme and registration form can be found here

Registration Reminder

A late fee applies to all registrations received after 31 August, so we encourage you to get your registration in as soon as possible. Not only is it considerably cheaper, it also assists us with planning. Make sure you register here.

Induction Service

The induction service for the Rev Fakaofo Kaio will be taking place at 7pm on Wednesday, 3 October in the St Andrew’s College Chapel. This service is open to all who wish to attend and for those who may be be travelling to attend the service (and who are not attending Assembly) we are able to provide dinner for you on Wednesday night for just $18pp. Tickets for dinner are available on the here.

Evening Programme

We are in the process of shaping the evening programme. As relationships are the theme for Assembly this year, Local Arrangements is working on some fun off-site activities that you will be able to opt-in for on Friday night. We will provide you with the opportunity to sign up for these in due course. If you have a suggestion of something you’ve always wanted to do in Christchurch, please let us know via email.

Airport Transport

A reminder that if you have requested airport transport for Assembly and haven’t yet sent us your flight details, please do so ASAP. We are in the process of organising shuttles and would hate to miss someone. Email us to let us know.

We need your help

GA 2018 is being hosted by the churches of Alpine Presbytery and their members. If you are in a parish in the South Island north of the Waitaki River, we invite you to assist us in hosting Assembly this year. There are plenty of ways to help, whether you can give a whole day or just a few hours. Learn more about how you can help:

Message from Moderator-Elect

This General Assembly starts with a powhiri. From there, Assembly will be invited to install me as the Church’s Moderator. There will be a welcome, and the opening service for GA 2018 will then begin.

I will lead our worship supported by local musicians Rev Dr Darryl Tempero and Mr Hemi
Lesatale. It should be an inspiring and a memorable experience for all. The Church will gather together with our guests, families and friends. The many languages of our people will be heard. The service concludes with communion. All praise and glory to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
