Our evening focus at this year’s General Assembly is based on the theme of ‘Discovering our Church’. This ties into the overall ‘relational’ theme of Assembly Week. The evening programme is open to all who would like to attend as is as follows:
Building a Platform for Hope: Thursday 4th October
A series of stories about re-building churches (not just buildings!) and launching new initiatives over the past few years here in Alpine Presbytery. We will have several people involved in this and Rev Marty Redhead will be our MC. It should include video clips as well as spoken input. Stories will include actual church re-builds post-earthquake and some reorganised churches and some new church-plants.This is the first Assembly held in Christchurch since the earthquake. Come and hear stories of hope, opportunity, perseverance and rebuilding (more than just their buildings). Our prayer is that we will learn from each other, and be inspired to look at the different ways in which “church” is taking shape.
R&R Night: Friday 5th October
Take some time out from the business of Assembly to “Relate and Recreate” – whatever that looks like to you. It may be catching up with friends and/or whanau that you haven’t seen for awhile, spending some time in reflection in the midst of a busy week, or perhaps taking the opportunity to experience some of what Christchurch has to offer. For those that would like to, we have the following activities available for you to partake it. (These will need to be booked in advance).
|Christchurch Bus Tour||Cost: $25 (pp)|
|Jump on a tour bus and take in the sights of the city centre and see how the rebuild is going. Full commentary provided. Minimum 20 people to run.|
|Escape Room||Cost: $20 – $25 (pp)|
|Get a team together and see if you can beat the clock and solve the mystery to get yourselves out of the room. A great opportunity to build teams and have a bit of fun together.|
|Whiskey Tasting||Cost: TBA|
|Expand your whiskey knowledge and get to know this most Scottish of beverages a little bit better!|

Going Deeper-Rising Stronger: Saturday 6th October
A TED Talk / Panel discussion about making changes to the culture of our churches so that we can set a new direction in our relationship with God and each other. Instead of talking about the latest programme or idea to ‘fix’ the church we will ask our key speakers to take us deeper and look at what may help us make a more lasting difference. Speakers include Bishop Paul Martin S. M. (Catholic Diocese of Christchurch) and Pastor Amy Page-Whiting (Senior Pastor, Cashmere New Life Church) and Rev Gary Mauga (St Andrews Henderson). Rev Marty Redhead will be the MC for the night.
